Shelburne is widely considered quintessential Vermont, sporting an idyllic town center brimming with shops and cafes. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and miles of Lake Champlain coastline. Like we said, idyllic.

There’s plenty to do in Shelburne, from day trips to the quirky Shelburne Museum to walks along Shelburne Bay. The town is home to Shelburne Farms, a 1,400-acre working farm and National Historic Landmark. The farm offers family programs and summer camps for kids. With a population just over 7,000 people, Shelburne is a quiet respite from neighboring Burlington and South Burlington. 

Shelburne residents will tell you about the town’s strong sense of community. There are plenty of community events throughout the year as well as a weekly farmers market in the warmer seasons.

Access to Shelburne Bay and Lake Champlain is easy with multiple access points and boat ramps. Town residents can purchase an annual beach sticker to get exclusive entry to the Shelburne Town Beach. There are plenty of other opportunities to enjoy Shelburne’s fresh air including the La Platte Nature Park, Shelburne Farms, and the Shelburne Community Garden.

Shelburne has plenty of boutique and independent shopping options including the Shelburne Market, the Shelburne Country Store, and the Flying Pig Bookstore. More mainstream options are available in the Shelburne Road Shopping Plaza in nearby South Burlington, a short drive away.  

Education

Students in Shelburne are served by the Champlain Valley School District which includes the Shelburne Community School for children preK - 8th grade and Champlain Valley Union High School. There are about 850 students in the Shelburne Community School and 1,300 at Champlain Valley Union High School which serves Williston and the surrounding towns of Charlotte, Hinesburg, and St. George.and 1,300 in the high school.
