Lakes, mountains, shopping, dining… what more could you want? Local artisans and retailers, restaurants that serve only the best locally sourced fare, Burlington is the central hub of everything hip and home-grown that Vermont has to offer.

Vermont’s largest city, Burlington is nestled between the Green Mountains and the shores of Lake Champlain, with views of New York’s Adirondack Mountains. Frequently found on ‘Best Place to Live’ lists, the city offers access to the outdoors, education, and a great community.

Burlington residents enjoy unique culture and a country-like feel, with easy access to major metro areas. The city is a two hour drive to Montreal and three and a half hours to Boston. New York City is a five and a half hour drive or an easy hour and a half flight out of Burlington International Airport.

While Burlington is often labeled a college town, the vibrant city has plenty to offer for all residents. Consisting of five distinct neighborhoods, Burlington has a little bit of everything from the South End art district to the more suburban New North End. Downtown is home to the pedestrian only Church Street Marketplace and the renowned Burlington Waterfront. The Hill Section boasts large single family homes, rental properties, and the campuses of the University of Vermont and Champlain College. The Five Sisters neighborhood is an idyllic neighborhood sandwiched between the South End and the Hill Section. The Old North End is full of culture and arguably hosts a better restaurant scene than Downtown - we’ll let you sample and decide!

Shopping options are available throughout the city. While Church Street is home to boutique shops and national retailers, each district provides a variety of shopping options. City Market offers local, organic, and conventional products, a great selection of beer and wine, and hosts classes throughout the year to support a healthy lifestyle. City Market has two locations, one Downtown and one in the South End. The North Avenue and Ethan Allen Shopping Center provide a centralized shopping area in the New North End. Costco is a quick 15 minute drive in neighboring Colchester for wholesale staples beyond what the downtown markets can provide.

There are numerous employment opportunities in and around Burlington. UVM Medical Center, Dealer.com, 7th Generation, the University of Vermont, VEIC, and Efficiency Vermont are just a few of the larger employers that appreciate the lifestyle Burlington offers.

Parks and Recreation

The Burlington Bike Path connects the South End with the North End, and everything in between. What’s in between? Some 50+ parks, community gardens, beaches, skate parks, skating rinks, dog parks, fishing piers, and rec centers. If you’re the type to get out of the city, Burlington is centrally located to mountain towns like Bolton, Stowe, Cambridge, and the Mad River Valley.

CityPlace Burlington is a developing project that will redefine the landscape of Burlington. Following years of development issues, the project is reinvigorated by a new ownership team of Vermonters. The landmark complex will offer 426 housing units in the heart of Downtown, with street level retail, public art installations, and a rooftop observation deck and restaurant.
